Restoration of listed Shorts Building, Bedford.
Construction company Bellway Homes acquired the land in 2010. Part of this development was the Restoration of the Shorts Building which A.R.T undertook the works internally and externally to Restore it back to it’s former glory, work commenced in March 2011 and was completed December 2011. Works completed by A.R.T:
EXTERNAL
- Biological restoration clean to all brickwork and stonework
- All stone columns, plinths coated with resin and silica sand finish
- All brickwork and stonework re-pointed
- Removal of all decayed brickwork and replaced with re-claimed bricks
- All structural openings and brick ups
- Soft demolition and strip out to wooden window frames
- Re-coating of all concrete steps with resin and quartz granite
- Removal of all steel fixings and made good
INTERNAL
- Damp proof course to Ground Floor external and internal wallings
- Structural supports for new opening
- Gritblasing to all metal work staircases
- Re-spray all enamel metalwork
- French polish timber handrails to all staircases
- Restoration to timber revolving doors – Gritblast, stain and re-lacquer timber, de-glaze and re-glaze, fit all new brass fittings.
- Flooring – all concrete ground floors coated with resin and coloured flake to create a multicoloured effect.
